Dr. Rushing is a Board Certified Orthodontist, which means that he has earned a college degree, finished Dental School, finished a two-year postgraduate orthodontic specialty program, and has completed the extensive examinations of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Rushing grew up in Tylertown, MS, graduated from Mississippi State University with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering, and worked for Amoco Chemicals Corp. for three years. He was then accepted into the University of Alabama School of Dentistry where he received his DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree after four years of study. He subsequently graduated from the two-year postgraduate orthodontic specialty program at the Lousiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans.

Dr. Rushing is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, and many other national, state and local dental organizations. He has served in many leadership positions. Dr. Rushing is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. He has also been inducted into the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists. For many years he served as  part-time clinical instructor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry. He has published clinical and editorial articles including a scientific clinical study in the Journal of the American Dental Association. Dr. Rushing has also given numerous clinical lectures to various dental organizations.

Dr. Rushing continually keeps abreast of new developments in orthodontics by attending seminars and conventions and by studying research articles published in various professional journals. He also stays updated on new developments in all areas of dentistry so he can better coordinate patients' orthodontic care with treatment to be done by their general dentists or other specialists. This is especially important when missing teeth have to be replaced by implants or bridges and when various types of surgery may be necessary.

Dr Rushing has participated in numerous civic organizations including Rotary International and Civitan Club, and he served five years on the Board of Management of the YMCA. He and his wife, Tina, are dedicated Christians and are active members of First Baptist Church of Clinton where they teach Bible Study in the Youth Department. Dr. Rushing is an ordained deacon and has been a Sunday School and Bible Study teacher for many years. He and Tina have three sons and two grandsons.

Dr. Rushing's hobbies are golfing, fishing, gardening and reading . He and Tina also enjoy traveling and family activities.
